A nunchaku is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon, consisting of two sticks held together by a rope or chain, which can be used as an effective weapon. This weapon is often confused with the similar-looking sai and tonfa.
However, this is heavier and shorter than either of those weapons - they are challenging to hold for an extended period of time, but can produce more power in short bursts. The nunchuck was banned from use during World War II by General MacArthur along with karate and judo, due to their association with Ninja warrior clans but re-introduced after the war under new regulations. The primary way to use a nunchuck is by holding one by the handle and swinging it around your head quickly in circles at about waist height. Generally, the "nunchuck experts" can complete this motion in both directions while keeping the sticks close to the body. You should also always practice with your eyes closed and make sure that no one is watching you (particularly children or elderly people). Nunchuck for Self Defense!
